Andrea's work and research focus is on the political economy of energy transitions and resource extraction. She joined NRGI in 2021 to contribute to the development of research and advocacy projects on the challenges and opportunities of low-carbon energy transitions for oil and gas-rich countries, the use of natural gas as a source for electricity in gas-rich countries, and governance priorities surrounding the production of minerals necessary for clean energy technologies. She also supports NRGI's capacity development work on energy transitions.

Andrea has worked for 10 years as a researcher and consultant for different organizations, including UNDESA, UNESCO, TU Berlin/DIW Berlin, among others in the fields of energy governance, socio-environmental conflicts, and rural development.

Andrea completed her Ph.D. in the geography department at the University of California, Los Angeles and holds a master's degree in human geography from Syracuse University, a master’s degree in social sciences from the University of Chile, a bachelor's degree in sociology from the Catholic University of Chile, and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the same university. Andrea’s most recent academic publications focus on the political economy of energy transition, with cases from Germany, Colombia, Chile, and the United States.
