This session at Indaba's Intergovernmental Forum will explore approaches to embedding rigor, data and transparency for successful resources growth, and how governments and financial institutions are preparing for the assessment of climate transition and physical risks across their investment and lending activities.

Key questions to be discussed include:
  • The role of climate scenarios in stress testing, as well as, methodological and data gaps.
  • The implications for industry stakeholders when they ignore mining companies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) context during their assessments.
  • Whether a purely data-led approach is enough when trying to understand mining companies’ ESG risks/opportunities.

The session will feature NRGI's Democratic Republic of the Congo country manager Roger Vutsoro, who will share findings from NRGI recent work on cobalt governance. Other speakers include:
  • Froydis Cameron-Johansson, Group Head of International, Government and Sustainability Relations, Anglo American
  • Shirley Webber, Head: Natural Resources and Energy, Absa CIB
  • Boubacar Bocoum, World Bank
  • Richard Dion, Senior Advisor, CONNEX Support Unit, GIZ GmbH
