The natural resource sector is among those most prone to corruption due to the large revenues at stake and the risks involved. The failure to capture the optimum benefit of natural resources has cost countries millions in state losses and the opportunity to finance development agendas.

In this session, PWYP Indonesia, the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI), Transparency International, Global Witness, and Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) join forces in a collaborative panel discussion to share their practical experiences in the fight against corruption in the natural resources sector, especially in Indonesia.

Driven by the growing number of anticorruption measures in the sector, particularly those relevant to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Standard – from revenue transparency to contract and beneficial ownership disclosures – the panel will focus on explaining existing initiatives and their impacts in improving governance and protecting revenue. This panel will also explore Indonesia's effective practices in tackling corruption in natural resources and stimulate debate on the need to scale them up into systemic policy reform.
