On 2 September 2021, NRGI launched the 2021 Resource Governance Index (RGI) for Uganda. The launch featured a presentation of the assessment of Uganda’s oil and gas, and mining sectors by NRGI Uganda country lead Paul Bagabo. Moses Kulaba, NRGI's East Africa manager, moderated.

As a flagship project of NRGI, the 2021 Resource Governance Index measures the quality of extractive sector governance in resource-producing countries around the world. It is a robust, evidence-based tool that allows stakeholders—such as governments, civil society actors, private companies, and citizens—to understand how their countries perform in terms of resource governance. It is a freely available public data product that serves as a global benchmark, country and sector diagnostic tool, and a roadmap for policy and practice reform. The 2021 RGI is the latest edition and covers 18 countries across Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.
