Events: Toward a Just and Equitable Energy Transition for Resource-Rich Countries

As leaders gather in Glasgow to plan how best to move away from fossil fuels, they must not ignore the needs of low- and middle-income resource-producing countries. During COP26, public-facing events from NRGI and partners will explore ways to promote a just and inclusive transition; most can be joined remotely. These include:

The Production Gap
Last week SEI, IISD, ODI, E3G and UNEP warned that governments’ planned fossil fuel production remains dangerously out of sync with Paris Agreement limits. Their report includes analysis by NRGI experts on the role of national oil companies and the crucial importance of transparency of state enterprises.

National Oil Companies and Climate Change
On 9 November, IISD and NRGI will publish guidance for climate advocates seeking to address the role of state-owned oil companies in climate mitigation. Meanwhile, revisit the event and blog series on the same subject.

NRGI and ETH-NADEL will host an online discussion on renewed challenges for resource-rich countries amid the energy transition as part of the closing of the “Natural Resource Governance and Development: Policies and Practice” advanced course. The event is open to the public.

Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development’s Annual General Meeting
NRGI's Suneeta Kaimal joined ICMM's Nicky Black and others at the IGF annual meeting to discuss new thinking and unusual collaborations for building resilience in mineral-rich countries. Read the summary.
